  • 666 Autumn Butter Vodka

    , ,

666 Autumn Butter Vodka is the world’s first natural butter vodka. Tasmania has one of the best dairy industries in the world. The best cream, the best milk, the best cheeses, and of course, some of the greatest butter. In Autumn, as the grass becomes juicier and juicier, the milk gets creamier and creamier, so the butter gets even better. Every year the rich Autumn Butter will be collected and combined with 666’s pot distilled vodka to make 666 Autumn Butter Vodka.

666 Autumn Butter Vodka is an expression of place, the flavour of North West Tasmania, of the local environment and the local industry. It is hand made with a slow fat-wash process using low heat, and loads of local butter, giving the resulting vodka a creamy, complex flavour unlike anything you have ever tasted. No colours, no preservatives, no artificial flavours, just great vodka, and fantastic local Autumn Butter.

TASTING NOTES: Rich butter on the nose, soft butter mouth feel. Perfect balance of savoury and soft butter flavours. Long finish, silky creaminess. Hints of butter chocolate, coffee and a vanilla finish.

Crafted by Pure Distillery Co., Tasmania, Australia.

  • 666 St Ali Coffee Vodka

    , ,

666 St Ali Coffee Vodka is the world’s first cold filtered coffee spirit. Australia has arguably the most diverse, successful, tasty and vibrant coffee roasting and drinking culture in the world, with St Ali the leader in the coffee scene. With experts, Matt Perger and St Ali, 666 Vodka combined their passion for vodka with this coffee expertise. Matt is Australian Barista of the Year, 2nd in the world at the World Barista Championship and World Coffee in Good Spirits champion.

Together they refined their own version of the Aeropress technique, using reduced temperatures to control the extraction using 666 Pure Tasmanian Vodka instead of water. The direct low temperature extraction gives us a stable flavour, and allows us to fine tune the strength to exactly match the profile of the roast and blend. St Ali roast and blend a unique variation of their classic Chompy beans just for us.

TASTING NOTES:  Sweet strong coffee, lots of smooth bitterness, with a long, clean finish. Good round flavours of espresso, full in the mouth, powerful and clean. Lots of spice, nutmeg, vanilla, and citrus peel.

  • Belgrove 100% Rye Whisky

Belgrove 100% Rye Whisky is a spicy rye whisky from Tasmania’s Belgrove Distillery, one of the distillers at the forefront of the Australian craft spirit industry revolution! The craft spirits from Belgrove Distillery come from the only biodiesel-powered still in the world, and utilise the beautiful natural surrounds of its location in the Tasmanian Midlands. Belgrove is one of very few Whisky distilleries in the world that grows all its own grain, malts, ferments, distills and barrel ages on site.

Tasting notes: Bright gold appearance. Immediately appealing and distinctive with its dill / pickle opening scents. Second pass offers chamomile tea, hints of boiled lolly, cedary oak and peppermint. A light, silky entry follows through to a super smooth and quite delicate profile featuring medium dry flavours of chamomile tea, sour dough bread and unusual notes of dill and caraway. Dry, mildly tannic finish. Aftertaste is subtle but shows good length.

The distillery aims at using local grains and fruits for all of its products. The rum is double distilled in a direct fired copper pot still and made from fermented refinery molasses.

Dries to finish with light golden syrup / brown sugar and vanilla milkshake in the aftertaste; molasses sweetness returning late.

  • Botanic Australis Gin

    , ,

Botanic Australis Gin stands out from any other ordinary gin because the structured blend of 14 Australian Native botanics make our gin far superior to any other dry styled gin.

Tasting note (theginqueen.com): You know I am passionate about Aussie gins (I’ve even created a lovely event for you to try some) so when I came across Botanic Australis Gin at Top Shelf Boutique Drinks Festival today (expect a round-up later) I couldn’t wait to write about it! It was definitely my ‘Gin of the day’. Where to start? It’s craft-distilled in North Queensland at the Mt. Uncle Distillery (there is a Mt. Aunty too!), contains no fewer than 14 native botanicals, (including three types of myrtle, finger limes and lilly pilly), and is both distinctive and delicious. The gentleman serving me described it as “very herbaceous”. And so it is. A hint of juniper, a mouthful of warmth and then the botanicals play a fandango (look it up) in your mouth. Herb, grass, mint and citrus flavours, all at once. I also detected ginger and pepper after notes too. It was love at first taste and I swiftly purchased a bottle. I am now saving for my airfare to Queensland where I will kiss the still that produced it.

  • Brookies Byron Dry Gin

    , ,

Brookies Byron Dry Gin is made in a custom hand-made copper pot-still in the heart of the Brook’s family macadamia farm in the Byron Bay hinterland. What sets the gin apart is that it showcases Australian native botanicals in a way that hasn’t been done before. This is achieved through a unique distillation method and the use of native botanicals from the rainforest. The Brook’s family have replanted over 40,000 rainforest trees for regeneration over the past 30 years.

    Tasting Notes:

The spirit opens on a captivating combination of Citrus notes, led by Aniseed and Cinnamon Myrtle in harmony with a lively drift of Finger and Blood Limes. This awakens and stimulates the olfactory system which rejoices in the purity of their aromas. But be patient, this is just the start of an aromatic odyssey. Juniper berries pop like champagne bubbles lifting the senses to a place they have never been. With a little time and aeration Juniper and Coriander enter the scene bringing the depth and distinction that one expects from a high quality Gin. As the spirit evolves further, the taste receptors are going crazy with anticipation, but they will have to wait as White Aspen and Riberry join the party. Add a little Lily Pilly and Dorrigo Pepper leaf and now your getting there. It’s an incredible beguiling ground breaking aromatic exploration.”

  • Brookies Byron Slow Gin

    , ,

Brookies Byron Slow Gin is a limited edition release from Cape Byron Distillery.

A traditional style of ‘sloe gin’ is made from sloe berries. The new Brookie’s drop takes a subtle shift away from this style and namesake by using Davidson plums instead, which are native to the Byron Bay and northern rivers region. From its distillery in the Byron Bay hinterland, the creation of the Brookies Byron Slow Gin is a long process – there is a six-month maturation period from when the plums are picked and the skins are torn. After that, it’s blended with Mount Warning spring water, then balanced with sugar (Davidson plums are quite tart), and the result is an impressive gin with rich, aged characteristics.

Tasting Notes: The bright and deep colour achieved is completely natural from the plums. The taste is aged and, in a very subtle way, has similarities to port, with notes of watermelon and rose. The Slow Gin is refreshing in style and form, and is best served neat or with an sliver of orange peel.

  • Four Pillars Australian Christmas Gin

    , ,

To make the limited edition Four Pillars Australian Christmas Gin, Four Pillars Master Distiller, Cam, first distills some Christmas puddings (made to his mother Wilma’s 1968 recipe) with juniper, cinnamon, star anise, coriander and angelica over the top.

Cam also ages gin in a couple of 125-year-old ex-William Grant scotch whisky barrels that had previously stored Rutherglen Muscat for 80 years. He then blends this with the Christmas Pudding gin, and to finish he adds a slight tweak of Rutherglen Classic Muscat to round out the palate. This year Cam also added a touch of our own muscat that has been sitting in barrels which previously aged Pedro Ximenez. So we get even more depth, richness and complexity.

More than ever, it smells like gin and tastes like Christmas. Sip it neat (it’s dangerously drinkable), make a Christmas Martinez, pour over your pudding or check out these other drinking suggestions.
