Bacardi is the largest privately held, family-owned spirits company in the world, and is best-known for their rum. Origianlly founded in 1862 in Santiago de Cuba by Don Facundo Bacardi, Bacardi Reserva Limitada Rum was originally crafted exclusively for the Bacardi family. Bacardi rum is no longer produced in Cuba, with their headquarters in Bermuda and main production facilities in Pueto Rico. A family-owned company for seven generations, current day Bacardi employs 6,000 people, manufactures at 27 facilities in 16 markets on four continents, with sales in more than 150 countries.
The bat had always been a symbol of good fortune, so when Doña Amalia Bacardí spotted fruit bats in the family’s distillery, she insisted it be used as their symbol. Today it remains on the bottle, helping the family survive whatever fate throws at it.
