Equiano Rum Gift Tube (Limited Batch 01) is the world’s first African and Caribbean rum, a multi award winning premium aged rum, making it one of the best rums in the world right now for the 8-12 year aged category, having won gold at all the major international competitions.
Equiano is a collaboration of two distilleries on two different continents, creating something entirely new for the centuries old craft. The liquid is a blend from one of the best emerging distilleries in Africa, Gray’s Distillery in Mauritius, and the world-renowned Bajan distillery – Foursquare Rum Distillery.
Named after Olaudah Equiano, an entrepreneur and freedom fighter whose autobiography shaped history. Like the rum, Equiano was born in Africa, journeyed to the Caribbean and settled in the UK where, upon paving his way to liberation through selling a puncheon of rum at a time, he became a prominent figure in the freedom and abolition movement in Britain and the US.
In 1745, Olaudah Equiano was born. His life began in Africa, but before reaching his teens, he was kidnapped and sold into slavery. Growing as a boy into a man, his experiences shaped him. During his early years he voyaged across the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean where he was enslaved for many years. Eventually he crossed the seas once more and landed in the United Kingdom. Tenacious and determined, he traded in rum on the side, selling a puncheon of rum at a time. In just a matter of years he managed to save forty pounds, paving his way to liberation. Equiano was free!
