Beenleigh Flood Rum Single Cask Release was specially bottled for The Rum Club Australia in 2022 following international acclaim and multi award wins for the Beenleigh Flood Rum. This release is the first ever Single Cask Release (Barrel #1570) of this truly unique rum.
Celebrating 138 years of Australian rum provenance, crafting the Real Australian Spirit since 1884 — the award-winning, heritage-listed Beenleigh Distillery stand the test of time on the banks of the Albert River. The Big Red shed and all within has survived numerous flood events and countless close calls, counting its blessings within the extremes of our Australian climate including the deluge from Tropical Cyclone Debbie in 2017.
On March 30, 2017, our Distillery team had two fresh molasses ferments underway prior to the flood waters rapidly rising with the Albert River in full force and eventually resulted in a near record peak of in excess of 3 metres within our grand old iconic home of Beenleigh & Inner Circle Rums. These ferments were quickly isolated during the ensuring devastation the included one of our 100 year old vats floating during the flood peak.
Upon the recovery and distillery operations continuing, the 127 day & 130 day fermentations were distilled and resulted in 12 ex-Bourbon American Oak barrels being filled. Through the adversity of Mother Nature, the resilience of the Big Red shed, the Distillery team and local Beenleigh community has risen once again above these flood waters, resulting in this Single Barrel collaboration with Rum Club Australia.
The inaugural 2021 release was honoured with several Australian and International Spirits honours with Gold Medals at ISC, San Francisco, IWSC and Australian Distilled Spirits Awards, even the judges agree:
Bright and fine on the nose here with citrus peel and vanilla pound cake, lychee explosion with grassy floral elements and lovely oaky- ness. Delicate and lovely. Really nice molasses and liquorice character coming through on the palate great cane character, loads of sweetness and spice is there to back it up, balance on this with spectacular integration.
Really great retention of base spirit and oak. Nice amount of old oak carrying the finish through here, great length and mouthfeel. A really outstandingly made spirit with a very deft hand.
This Single Barrel limited release of this unique Australian Rum history is the first ever single cask release of the Flood Rum following the inaugural Distillery release in 2021. It was bottled in January 2022, offering 4 years & 5 months maturation — the oldest release of this unique rum to date. A truly unique rum that will be sort after for years to come!
