Bristol Classic Caroni Distillery 1996 Rum

, , ,

Bristol Classic Caroni Distillery 1996 Rum is typical of Caroni “heavy” rum style with 12 years tropically aged, with the remainder continental aged. This release distilled in 1996 and bottled in 2011.

On Trinidad today there remains only one operating distillery since the Caroni operation has now closed. This means no further production of the full soft styles that Caroni produced and Bristol Spirits are pleased to have secured a small piece of history for your enjoyment.

Tasting notes: Nicely balanced vintage rum with very complex aroma, hints of exotic fruits, fudge, fried banana, tar and aromatic spices. Typical of the Caroni “heavy” rum style with 12 years maturation on the island. Deep colour, lots of fruit on the nose, good wood balance and long deep flavour.

Bristol Classic Caroni Distillery 1996 Rum is independently bottled by Bristol Spirits Ltd, who import premium Caribbean rum into the UK and carefully cellar them to maturity in the country.

They seek out small quantities, sometimes only single barrels from a single distillery, or a single estate or even a single still to show rum in its true unblended form. There are now around 12 rums in the Bristol Classics portfolio, most of which have been aged in casks in English warehouses for between 10 and 25 years. Each is from a single still, or a single estate. Interestingly the rums exhibit a range of styles easily equal to that perceived in fine Cognacs or single malt whiskies.

The Bristol Classic Caroni Distillery 1996 Rum as with all Caroni Rum from the now shuttered Caroni Distillery is becoming harder to find and eagerly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs alike.
