HHabitation Velier Hampden HES 2019 Jamaican Pure Single Rum 1500mL – LM&V 5th Anniversary Edition is part of the highly anticipated 2022 release from VELIER. In 2016 VELIER launched the Habitation Velier range, being the world’s only range of Pure Single Rums acting as a reference point to the type of rum produced by each distillery’s unique pot still.

The Habitation Hampden 2019 HES Jamaican Pure Single Rum is the first bottling of Hampden rum from Habitation Velier to bear the HES mark, which denotes the ester-level of the rum boasting relatively high ester levels of 253.5 gr/hl, you can expect this one to have a pretty intense flavour profile.

Hampden Estate Sugars or HES is Hampden’s 9th mark. It is in the same range as LROK in terms of ester content (200-400 gr/hlPA). Primarily made from natural brown sugar and a small amount of dunder added as well as a slow dilution with water from the dam, this HES was done as a one-off fermentation excercise. This is Hampden’s first bottling bearing this new and exclusive mark HES, with an ester content of 253.5 gr/hlPA.

The profile is full with plantains, yellow kiwi, vetiver star anise and chili. On the palate it is racy yet luscious. There is cane sugar, pear, vanilla, hay, musk, sage and grapefruit. The finish is long and greedy with vanilla, pineapple, geranium honey, pear and artichoke.

The term ‘Pure Single Rum’ defines a rum from a single distillery, distilled exclusively in pot stills. Pot still rums are more complex and typically more suitable to long ageing. The vintage Pure Single Rums are entirely aged in the tropics, ensuring a natural, accelerated aging compared to European ageing, at the expense of higher angels share.
