Barbancourt Special Reserve 8 Year Old Rum

,

Barbancourt 5 Star 8 Year Old Rum is a traditional rum made in Haiti by Barbancourt, established by Dupre Barbancourt in 1862.

This agricole style rum is produced from pure sugar cane juice and double distilled in a manner similar to that of Cognac. Primary distillation comes off at roughly 70% by volume and secondary 90% by volume. The spirit is then cut to 50% before it is matured in 100% French Limousine oak for varying periods depending on the bottling in question – eight years in this case.

Barbancourt Special Reserve 8 Year Old Rum is produced in Haiti. In 1862, Dupré Barbancourt, originally from Charente (France), put the finishing touches on a rum that still bears his name today.

Using the double distillation method usually reserved for great cognacs, Dupré Barbancourt discovered a rum with an incomparable character that has received the highest international distinctions since its creation. Dupré Barbancourt leaving no heir at his death, his wife, Nathalie Gardère, managed the company, with her nephew, Paul Gardère who succeeded him at the head of the company until 1946. At that time, the Rhums Barbancourt distillery, located on the Chemin des Dalles in Port-au-Prince, produced only a limited quantity of rum, the old rums being exclusively reserved for family and their loved ones. Paul died in 1946. Following the family tradition, his son Jean Gardère took up the torch until 1990. An entrepreneur and visionary, the latter was the instigator of the modernization of the Société du Rhum Barbancourt. In 1949, he transferred the distillery to the middle of the cane fields of Domaine Barbancourt. In 1952, the factory began to produce rums from sugar cane grown on its own plantation: Domaine Barbancourt. The company then became an internationally recognized producer for the authenticity and quality of its rums. In the mid-1960s, the 15-year-old Domaine’s Reserve, traditionally reserved for the family, was gradually opened up to distribution. When Jean, his son, died, Thierry Gardère took over: he is now the fourth generation of the Gardère family to run the company and continues the commitment to excellence and tradition.
