El Dorado Single Barrel Edward Henry Porter EHP Still Rum

, ,

El Dorado Single Barrel Edward Henry Porter EHP Still Rum is a rare single-distillate heritage rum linked to the old Enmore Estate, was the marquee used by the distillery attached to this sugar estate. The original Wooden Continuous Coffey Still, used, is the last surviving one operating in the world. Aged in small batches and matured in oak barrels in perfect warehouse conditions of 30-34C. Butterscotch nose blended with roasted coconut and apple. This initial taste of baked peach and coconut leads to a smoky cedar finish.

The rum is a blend of EHP still barrels aged between 13-16 years.

El Dorado Single Barrel Edward Henry Porter EHP Still Rum is part of limited edition range that showcases 3 of DDL’s famous stills (PM, EHP and ICBU). The rum was released in 2007 to commemorate the cricket World Cup, some matches of which were held in Guyana – the shape of the bottle to resemble a cricket bat is therefore not an accident.

These bottlings are now hard to find and are highly sought after.

El Dorado Single Barrel Edward Henry Porter EHP Still Rum starts with the story of Demerara Distillers, which began in 1670 when every sugar estate had its own rum still, and a group of sugar cane producers formed an exporting co-operative. This early production of rum for sailors was the beginning of the company today.
From over 300 sugar estates to one company! In the 17th and 18th centuries, there were in excess of 200 small distilleries operating in Guyana, each attached to the existing sugar plantations, each with its own special blend of rum. However, following the years of consolidation and amalgamation, there remains today just the one unrivaled distillery at Plantation Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara – wholly owned and operated by Demerara Distillers Limited.
