Rums have been produced on the Caribbean island of Antigua for close to 350 years. These relatively light-bodied styles were originally created to satisfy discerning clientele from the British Royal Navy. Rums under the English Harbour label are today produced via copper pot distillation and maturated in small oak barrels.
Tasting note: English Harbour 1981 25 Year Rum displays a deep amber copper color. Fantastical rich aromas of warm chocolate pudding, caramelized bananas, pears, and nuts, maple are mesmerizing and follow through on a plush, vital entry to a dry-yet-fruity full body with superb depth, balance, and intricacy. Finishes with a seemingly endless flourish of evolving, oak driven flavors of caramel, tobacco, leather, and spice. An Olympian aged rum.
