Hampden Great House Distillery Edition 2024

Hampden Great House Distillery Edition 2024 – After 250 years of only exporting its renowned rum in bulk to independent bottlers and merchants alike, Hampden Estate has finally produced and bottled their very own rum and it is a must-have for anyone who wants to enjoy an elegant flavor bomb of a rum that can be sipped neat or enjoyed in some amazing cocktails as as the classic Mai Tai.

Produced with unique and partly secret methods that have remained unchanged since the 18th century. The result is a rum with a distinct aromatic profile due to an extremely high level of esters.

Founded in 1779, the Great House (Habitation in French) of the Jamaican Hampden distillery served as a storage warehouse for barrels until the early 1900s.

Hampden Great House Distillery Edition 2024 is a blend of the most representative marks of the unique style of Hampden Estate rums, a historic Jamaican distillery active since 1753 that produces a unique rum characterised by spring water, prolonged fermentation with wild yeasts, distillation in copper double retort pot stills, tropical ageing in ex-bourbon barrels and no added sugar or additives. Located in the Trelawny province, in the grand cru of Jamaican rum, and run since 2009 by the Hussey family, Hampden Estate is known for having the best land parcels in the country, with one of the highest yields per hectare.

This release, like its predecessors, represents a historic moment for the world of spirits, as it is a rum that is normally only available for purchase at the distillery, or in very rare editions outside the Jamaican market.

Distilled and aged at the legendary Hampden Estate, located in Trelawny, Jamaica, that has been producing rum since around 1753. To this day the distillery has retained the traditional production methods that made the aromatic, high ester Jamaican rums famous worldwide. After more than 265 years of uninterrupted activity, Hampden, the iconic Jamaican distillery, finally launches its own bottling of aged rums on the international scene!

Trelawny rums were developed in the late 18th century in this particular region of Jamaica. The Hampden Estate distillery has perpetuated the method over the centuries, and passed it on to the last two surviving distilleries which continue using it. The process of producing high ester rum is highly complicated, and it’s astonishing to think it was developed in a time before modern science, relying only on empirical research and without chromatography etc. Rum experts Richard Seale and Gianni Capovilla, who visited Hampden at different times, were both fascinated by the production process at the distillery. Since the late 18th century, Trelawny rums have always obtained the highest prices on the world market.

Hampden Great House Distillery Edition 2024 as with all rums by Hampden Estate is an authentic rum with no sugar or flavouring added. Complex in structure yet silky smooth and tropical.
