Pussers 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Rum

, ,

Pussers 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Rum is a limited edition rum from Pusser’s that commemorates the 50th anniversary of Black Tot Day.

To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of this historic event, Pusser’s Rum LTD proudly introduces its Limited Edition 50th Anniversary Rum, a special combination of aged Trinidad and Guyana rums blended at 54.5% ABV (109 Proof) and to the exact specification used by the Admiralty when it discontinued the issue.  The Rum is a product of five stills, three in Guyana and two in Trinidad. The award-winning taste of this blend is heavily influenced by distillate from the vintage Greenheart double wooden pot still originally constructed at the Port Mourant Estate which was first placed in service in 1732.

The taste is a touch of what has become known as “classic Demerara” with a warm mix of rich molasses and sweet brown sugar,  and a complex blend of the island spices of nutmeg, clove, and cassia mingled with notes of sultanas, prunes, and exotic tropical fruits. The Anniversary Blend ends with a finish of soft oak, toasty caramel, and the crowd-pleasing taste of buttery, melt-in-your-mouth English toffee. Master Distillers call it a “perfect balance.”

Pussers 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Rum is a British Navy style rum inspired by the original. For many years, sailors of Great Britain’s Royal Navy were issued a daily ration or ‘tot’ of rum by the ship’s ‘Purser’ (corrupted by the sailors to Pusser’s). A ritual that continued up until July 31st 1970; the end of a 325 year naval tradition was marked on British ships around the world with sailors wearing black armbands and conducting mock funerals, this was known as Black Tot day. Pusser’s Rum was resurrected in 1980 by ex-Navy Seal, Charles Tobias. After much convincing he was allowed to reproduce the rum to the exact specifications of the Admiralty blend established in 1810.

Pussers 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Rum A limited edition rum from Pusser’s that commemorates the 50th anniversary of Black Tot Day – when the Royal Navy removed the rum ration from sailors. Made from a blend of spirit from five stills, three in Guyana and two in Trinidad. This limited edition Admiralty rum blend is rich and full-bodied, with an unsurpassed smoothness due to its wooden “pot stilled” lineage.

Pusser’s Rum is the product of stills located in Guyana. Unlike many rums, Pusser’s is all natural and is never artificially flavoured or coloured. The molasses used in each of the contributing stills comes from sugar cane grown in the Demerara River Valley—once the home of 300 sugar cane estates each with its own distillery. This geographic region has been highly renowned for its production and worldwide distribution of sugar since the 1600s. It is often referred to as the “Valley of Navy Rum.”
